Safe Families

Everyone has the right to feel safe at home, in their relationships and in their community.

AMRC works with culturally and linguistically diverse communities to prevent and respond to domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV).

We provide a trusted and culturally responsive place for people to talk, seek information and connect with support. We also work with communities, specialist services, government and other organisations to strengthen responses to DFSV for migrant and refugee communities.

You can also call the Domestic Violence Crisis Line for 24-hour support – phone 1800 800 098

If you are experiencing domestic, family or sexual violence, are worried about your safety, or are concerned about someone you know, you can talk to us.

Worried about your visa?

If you are on a temporary visa or your visa is connected to your partner, you may be worried about what will happen to your visa if you seek help or leave a relationship.

You do not have to stay in an unsafe relationship because of your visa.

Strengthening CALD Community Responses to Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence

AMRC is delivering the Strengthening CALD Community Responses to Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence project to strengthen prevention, early intervention and responses to DFSV across culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

The project is focused on:

  • embedding CALD and lived experience voices in DFSV responses and reform
  • strengthening bicultural workforce and sector capability
  • increasing community awareness and prevention
  • creating safer and more accessible pathways to support
  • strengthening partnerships and coordination between multicultural and specialist services
  • building evidence to inform policy, practice and system improvement.

The project includes a Lived Experience Advisory Network and Community Leaders Advisory Network, community information and awareness activities, workforce development, partnerships with specialist and mainstream organisations, and independent evaluation.

At the centre of the project is a simple principle: every conversation counts. Building trust and creating culturally safe opportunities to talk about DFSV can help people understand their rights, recognise violence and seek support earlier.

The project includes a Lived Experience Advisory Network, Community Leader Advisory Network, and community information and awareness activities in partnership with specialist and mainstream organisations

My child has become happier, even sings pack-up song at home. He learned it at the creche.

I can see a difference in my daughter: she cannot wait to get to the creche, she smiles a lot more now.

My children love to play with the toys. With five small children, I cannot afford toys at home.

When I needed assistance most, I found it at AMRC. I’m so grateful for the information and support…

With two autistic children, I have my hands full. Thank you for mentoring me through parenting information. I did not know I was strong enough. I have now embarked on a career pathway.

I enjoy the outing to Belair Park; it reminds me of the forests in my homeland.
