Community Engagement

We empower individuals and community organizations through governance, leadership, cultural development, and capacity-building initiatives. Whether you’re an emerging community group looking to strengthen your impact or an individual seeking to enhance your skills, we offer tailored support to help you thrive.

 Leadership & Governance

We work closely with new and emerging community groups, helping them build collective resources, develop advocacy skills, and engage with government and the broader community. Our initiatives include:

  • Governance & Leadership Training – Strengthening the capacity of management committees to lead effectively.
  • Ethnic Leader’ Forums – Bringing together leaders and key representatives to discuss challenges, share strategies, and connect in all civic, economic, and social aspects.
  • Strategic Consultation & Engagement – Providing community members with platforms to voice concerns, advocate for their needs, and develop solutions for improved settlement and participation.
  • Administrative & Resource Support – Assisting with access to facilities, funding applications, marketing materials, and essential administrative tools.

Connecting Settlement, Community, and Industry (CSCI) Forums

AMRC’s Connecting Settlement, Community, and Industry (CSCI) forums are held regularly across Adelaide, Naracoorte, Bordertown, Mount Gambier, Murray Bridge and Whyalla, bringing together community, government representatives, local councils, employers, and service providers from sectors including health, education, employment, settlement, mental health, housing, and domestic violence support. These forums build collaboration between settlement providers, industries, and community organizations, ensuring a unified approach to supporting new arrivals.

Through discussions on policy updates, local council initiatives, employer insights, and systemic challenges, participants exchange best practices and explore pathways for workforce participation, industry engagement, and community inclusion. By bridging gaps and strengthening partnerships, the CSCI forums play a vital role in shaping strategies for sustainable and successful settlement across South Australia.

 Multicultural Community Centres

AMRC provides dedicated community spaces across 7 outlets in South Australia, offering venues and resources for cultural gatherings, training sessions, and collaborative projects. Our centres host a variety of activities, including:

  • Resident Community Organizations – the Middle Eastern Communities Council of SA (MECCSA) and the African Communities Council of SA (ACCSA).
  • Education & Training – English language classes, leadership development, first-aid training, and DFV-alert training.
  • Networking & Collaboration – Connecting communities with government, NGOs, and service providers to support social and economic opportunities.
  • Facility & Venue Support – Helping groups access other alternative venues through local government, religious, and service agency facilities, while providing guidance on hire agreements, insurance, and funding assistance.

Arts & Cultural Development

AMRC champions arts and culture as powerful tools for social cohesion, empowerment, and cultural preservation. Our programs highlight the richness of South Australia’s diverse communities and provide platforms for new arrival artists.

  • Café Música at Adelaide Fringe Festival – A vibrant showcase of new arrival performers, celebrating cultural diversity through music and storytelling.
  • Major Concerts & Collaborations – Featuring multicultural artists at prominent Adelaide venues and partnering with groups like TabHu Theatre and the Adelaide Festival of Arts.
  • Cultural Performances & Artist Development – Connecting migrant and refugee artists with councils, arts organizations, and creative projects to build career opportunities.

 Sports & Recreation Initiatives

We recognize the role of sports in supporting inclusion, health, and community connection. AMRC connects and organizes various sport and recreational programs, helping individuals and families engage in activities that:

  • Promote health and well-being through community-based sporting events.
  • Encourage teamwork and leadership among young people and emerging athletes.
  • Build social networks by connecting migrants and refugees with established sporting clubs and associations.

 Special Initiatives for Community Growth

Beyond cultural and recreational activities, we lead targeted initiatives to raise awareness and increase opportunities in key areas such as:

  • Education & Employment Pathways – Supporting career development and workforce integration.
  • Disability & Aged Care Inclusion – Connecting diverse communities with essential services and equipping them with the tools in supporting their community and developing their caring roles.
  • Cybersecurity & Digital Literacy Providing training on online safety and digital skills
