Every year on June 20 – United Nations World Refugee Day – the world celebrates the courage, resilience, strength and contributions of people of refugee background.
Again this year the Australian Migrant Resource Centre (AMRC) is hosting the Youth Poster Awards Exhibition as part of SA Refugee Week, which will be celebrated from Sunday June 14 to Saturday June 20 2026. The public exhibition will be launched during SA Refugee Week, and will then tour to regional and metropolitan galleries. This project is supported by the Minister for Education.
All young people studying in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions are invited, through their schools, to produce a poster that celebrates the themes surrounding the United Nations International Refugee Convention. These themes include multiculturalism, human rights, cultural diversity, anti-racism and the welcoming of refugees into Australia, as well as how refugees become part of, and contribute towards, the Australian “family”. The 2026 focus is on “A Million Stories” reflecting Australia’s one million refugees.
A great strength of this exhibition is how students from all backgrounds – not only those who may have a refugee background – are able to create their own diverse visions of the exhibition themes.
Three awards in each age section will be given – with cash awards for both schools and individuals.

Posters must be submitted to the Australian Migrant Resource Centre, 23 Coglin Street, Adelaide SA 5000, by no later than Friday 10th April 2026 at 5.00pm.

Young speakers of refugee background are available to address your school about the themes of the exhibition and about Refugee Week from Harmony Day (Saturday 21st March 2026) until Refugee Week itself.
