About the documentary
A Million Stories celebrates the strength, resilience and contributions of refugee and migrant communities in Australia.
Produced as part of Refugee Week 2026, the documentary shares the personal journeys of nine refugee and migrant South Australians, framed by the opening and closing reflections of Kaurna Elder Aunty Elaine Magias. Together, these stories offer a powerful insight into the many experiences that shape multicultural Australia.
Whether arriving after fleeing conflict and persecution, seeking new opportunities, reuniting with family or pursuing a better future, each journey reflects courage, resilience and hope. Through these personal stories, the documentary highlights the shared values that connect us and the important contributions refugee and migrant communities make to Australian society.
At its heart, A Million Stories explores what it means to belong to Country, culture, family and community. It invites audiences to listen, reflect and recognise that while every journey is unique, our shared humanity brings us together.
We all have a story and every story matters. Together, they shape who we are.
