The Bordertown Football Club is very pleased to announce junior colt Mehdi Ghulami has been selected in the World Team Program run by the AFL.

He was selected to be one of four boys from South Australia to join the squad of 25 across the country. The first part of the program is a week in Melbourne from July 8-13th. The program consists of football development, leadership, team building and cultural activities. To qualify for the second stage of the program in December certain standards need to be achieved at school. Some AFL players of note to come through the program are Sydney’s Alir Alir and Gold Coast’s Touk Miller.

Mehdi was born in Afghanistan and has achieved a great deal in a very short time since arriving to Bordertown only about 18 months ago. Remarkably he won the best and fairest by a large margin as a middle age player in his first ever season of football. He has a fierce determination and leads the way every week with his tackling and determination to be involved in the play. He has plenty of work to do on his kicking and decision making, but he is very willing to learn and improve. He is a very popular member of the Roosters team and leads by example every week. The Bordertown Football Club is very proud of his achievement and wishes Mehdi a fantastic trip to Melbourne.
