Community Constable Reedah Zaffar joined the South Australian Police on the 6^th of June 2019. At the age of 19, she arrived in Australia in 2006 from the Middle East. She completed her Year 12 studies and a Bachelor of International Development at the University of Adelaide.

Currently, Reedah is stationed at Parks Police Station and describes the role of a community constable as keeping the community safe by assisting police as a result of their knowledge and skills relevant to a particular community from an Aboriginal or other diverse cultural background. This may include language skills, knowledge of a specific culture, ability to identify community leaders/elders, and identify family members and their connections. The community constable’s model is based on original Aboriginal community constables that have been in existence since the 1980s and other diverse African community constables. “As a community constable, I actively participate in operational policing duties, as well as undertaking community liaison and engagement activities. The role of a community constable enhances SAPOL’s ability to provide a quality policing service to nominated communities through improved relationships and mutual understanding.”
