Good news: Masuma Hassanzadeh

“Since I started volunteering, my life has totally changed. When I come to volunteer at AMRC, I become a different person. I am happier and more confident.”

AMRC volunteer, Masuma Hassanzadeh, is emblematic of AMRC stories of achievers.

Masuma and her family fled the war in Afghanistan, making their way to Pakistan, before finally being resettled in South Australia in 2001.

Masuma was a homemaker and successfully brought up 5 children, who now work as professionals in nursing and teaching.

Now that her children have grown up, Masuma has decided to embark on her own employment pathway.

“I’ve always wanted to work. I encourage my children to get a good education and give back to the Australian community. Now it’s my turn to find a job”, Masuma said.

Being a role model to her granddaughter has also influenced her decision.

“I have a granddaughter and at my age you have to try harder,” Masuma said.
Masuma began her employment pathway volunteering in the AMRC creche, as she holds a Cert III in Childcare.

From here, Masuma joined the AMRC Women’s Employment into Action (WEIA) program where she was supported to undertake further training to upskill and prepare for employment.

After three months of volunteering, Masuma has successfully secured two casual positions – one with a Homecare service and another as a childcare worker.

Masuma’s hard work and determination do not go unacknowledged. Masuma continues to be an inspiration to many women in her community.

“Make your dream happen, give it a go, be brave like me,” Masuma said.
