“Networking and making connections are important…in getting a job in South Australia,” John said.
John had worked in Naracoorte and as volunteer with Alexandrina Council before landing a full-time professional position in public health at City of Salisbury.
He moved back to Adelaide to start work at City of Salisbury.
As a highly skilled professional, John Opio commenced a higher degree by research at the Adelaide University in 2017 from Uganda.
Together with his young family, he wasted no time in making connections with the local Australian community.
He was elected Chairperson of the Ugandan Community and headed the community from 2017 to 2020.
He has also dedicated his time to making a difference by actively supporting new arrivals as a volunteer at AMRC.
He currently holds the role of Public Officer on the Board of African Communities Council of South Australia.
He is a great role model as someone who tries hard and has achieved.
John has these wise words, “Don’t be afraid to try. If you don’t try, you would never find out.”
