Empowering People with Disabilities (EPD) aims to increase the capacity of CALD people to access services that meet their needs, participate in community life as everyone else and develop their skills to manage their own plans and to access other supports outside of NDIS.

The project targets CALD people with disabilities, NDIS and non-NDIS participants, families and carers, their community of origin and other stakeholders and services.

This project will adopt a strengths-based approach to build participants’ resilience, confidence and agency by engaging them in areas of interest and then expanding their participation to build capacity for long-term, to be able to advocate for themselves and other people in their community.

The project will focus on providing the following activities to address the needs and achieve the outcomes as per ILC Framework:

  • Engage people with disabilities and carers in a safe environment by recognising their barriers, expectations and providing a platform for them to enhance their skills and engagement in activities, as well as to monitor and review their program.
  • Link people with disabilities with activities they will enjoy and may or may not be aware currently exist.
  • Provide a platform for them to get additional information in a way they can understand and not feel threatened or intimidated.
  • Access information in their first language by speaking to AMRC workers who have a good understanding of cultural expectations.
  • Build confidence and capabilities to engage with mainstream peer support groups, to more effectively influence disability services to improve their services.
  • Access to ongoing support and training to maintain and develop their knowledge, skills and experience to participate in planning and decision-making etc.

We partner WITH YOU in addressing your care needs, and enabling you to access and participate in community activities as everyone else.
