Privileged to convene two forums, sharing our experiences in living and working in the Murraylands and Naracoorte, Lucindale. Thank you to all participants; very new arrivals from the Congo, Fiji and Samoa, Chinese families and more established communities – Afghanis, Maori, Laotian, Malaysian, Congolese, Sudanese and others. It was inspiring to convene this consultation with over 120 women, men and young people, who gave up their Sunday to share their experiences, challenges and aspirations.
Thank you to Mayor Erika Vickery OAM for attending to welcome the Naracoorte group, and thank you to round table facilitators Peta Crewe, Heather Muirhead, Bao Luo, Jamila Ahmadi, Dawaud Sharify and Jenny Stirling, and thank you to Dawn, the Maori community and Indian Pearl Restaurant for the wonderful lunch.
Our partner, the Hugo Centre for Migration and Population Research will use the outcomes of the focus groups in its report, updating our understanding of lived experiences of various migrant visa groups living and working in regional areas.
