SCoA welcomes launch of Harmony Alliance
By Settlement Council of Australia (SCoA)

SCoA celebrates the launch of the Harmony Alliance for migrant and refugee women.

Launched in Adelaide on 11 October 2017 by Senator the Hon Michaelia Cash, Minister for Women, the Alliance seeks to provide a national inclusive voice for migrant and refugee women.

Among its many important priorities, the Alliance will focus on access to justice; health, wellbeing and safety; and employment and economic participation. In doing so, it will bring together the unique perspectives of migrant and refugee women in Australia to influence policy, advise government and raise awareness.

SCoA is proud to be an ex-officio member of the Alliance Council, where it joins a range of community organisations, peak bodies and community representatives, including SCoA members Settlement Services International, Access Community Services and the Multicultural Youth Advocacy Network.

Under the capable guidance of well known and tireless advocate for migrant women, Maria Dimopolous as Chairperson, and supported by a committed Secretariat hosted by the Migration Council Australia, the Council will oversee the implementation of the Alliance’s crucial work plan.

SCoA welcomes the support of the Office for Women, which funds this important inititative, and looks forward to working with the Alliance to drive effective outcomes for migrant and refugee women in their settlement journeys and beyond.
