The Murraylands Multicultural Network held its annual general meeting on Saturday, July 22, with key community members and service providers attending.

Past members of the network were congratulated for their valuable settlement work in Murraylands and new members were elected, including new chair John Scarvelis, representing the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge; deputy chair Dunia Sharib, of Iraqi background; secretary Elen Monica, of Indonesian background; and treasurer Brian Rainey, from the Italian Club in Murray Bridge.

Other members elected to the committee included Susana Masinadiong, Jagtar Singh, Zhi Jian Chen, Bing Zhu Liu and previous network chair Joy Goodridge.

Joy presented her report to the meeting, which acknowledged the vital work achieved in partnership with the Murraylands Migrant Resource Centre, Rotary Club of Murray Bridge, local government and community support services.

At a time when Murray Bridge is receiving more and more migrants and refugees, the network is an essential welcoming part of the Murraylands’ population development.

The Murraylands Multicultural Network committee has since met at the Murray Bridge office of the Australian Migrant Resource Centre to start to plan the way forward.

The Mayor of the Rural City of Murray Bridge, Brenton Lewis, also came to meet the committee members and participate in their discussion.
