The Australian Migrant Resource Centre (AMRC) launched the Working with New and Emerging Communities to Prevent Family and Domestic Violence – Good Practice Resource by Mr Andrew O’Keefe AM, Founding Member of White Ribbon Australia and White Ribbon Ambassador, on Wednesday 22 November 2017 at the Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute. The good practice resource is focused on work with migrant and refugee communities through sharing an effective model to campaign against and prevent Family and Domestic Violence.

Mr O’Keefe AM, a passionate advocate of social justice causes, shared how he initially commenced his role with White Ribbon Australia, dedicated to eliminating all forms of violence against women, and the significance of having this resource available to organisations working with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Communities (CALD), particularly those working with families in new and establishing communities.

Guest speaker included Ms Maria Dimopoulos, Chairperson, Harmony Alliance: Migrant and Refugee Women for Change, and Managing Director of Myriad International Consulting Services, who partnered with the AMRC to prepare the resource. Ms Dimopoulos presented on the women’s alliance, now one of six National Women’s Alliances, consulting nationally with women of migrant and refugee backgrounds to inform on issues impacting them and facilitate positive change at government level.

The evening also encompassed amazing performances delivered by the Burundian Gospel Choir, Bhutanese Women’s Dance Group, and Zouhir Naji and Saleh Almansour. If you would like a copy of the resource, contact the AMRC on (08) 8217 9544 or email
